4 stars (The future of christianity) - Fundementalists beware, your world may be shaken when you read this intelligent book. Borg is a great scholar and theologian. he has a nice touch and presents jesus in a believable and humble light without taking away the divine aspect. This is an antidote against religious fundementalists who wnat to own Jesus and create an exclusive cult they call christianity. 4 stars (Informative book about the historical Jesus) - I actually decided to read Borg's books after reading some of John Crossan's books where Borg was referenced. I thought the set-up of this book was extremely helpful in illustrating what Borg was discussing. However, I think I had hoped this would be more of a "heart-felt" novel. I understand Borg had to get in all the historical information about Jesus (and he did an incredible job at that) but I had hoped he would speak of Jesus on more of an emotional level. I felt as I was more of an outsider looking in on the life of Jesus rather than a comrade right next to him. And perhaps that is the effect Borg wanted. All in all, a great book with great information. What I found most interesting in this whole book was the link between Jesus and Sophia (wisdom). Borg makes an excellent point to contrast the "Son of God" image of Jesus by saying Jesus was personified as Wisdom- a feminine term in Greek. He does this to stress the many metaphors used when defining Jesus and says we must not take them literally. 5 stars (Lucky employees have managers who apply this book....) - This book provides an excellent insight and discussion of the priorities that managers and leaders should make while attempting to guide their employees and others around them to personal and group success. Once these priorities are established in the leader or manager's repertoire then their success is set to follow as well. Managers should follow the simple guidleines presented in this book, to create and gain employees who are engaged which in turn contributes to the success of the manager. ...and successful managers have lucky employees! 5 stars (An Excellent Book Despite the Questionable Title) - REVIEW: The title of this book was an immediate turn-off for me because of the hyped-up nature of the phrase, "The One Thing". I'm always on the look out for charlatans who tend to make use of such exaggerated claims more often than the average author. However, I decided to read this book anyway since I read the two books that Marcus Buckingham is coauthor of, First Break All the Rules and Now, Discover Your Strengths, and those two books are two of my favorites. I'm glad I read this book and I now have a third favorite book having Marcus Bucking ham as an author. In short, the knowledge I gained from this book will help make me a more successful manager. The author has a clear and concise theory and uses the right amount of practical advice on managing and leading people and organizations. Perhaps the most important thing I learned from The One Thing is the difference between managing and leading. These terms are thrown around all the time in mass market business books, but this is the first one that I have read which very clearly defines the distinction between the two and concisely and practically explains how the roles differ in an organization. 5 stars (For Novices and Those Who Think They're Pros, Too!) - My knowledge of football is limited but I've always enjoyed the game. Holly Robinson Peete writes with humor as well as honing in on the "fears" of women who don't understand the game. I learned a lot and refer to it as I watch this year's onslaught of games. She also provides interesting anecdotal comments and facts about the history of the game and its famous and infamous players. 5 stars (Finally!! It all makes sense) - As a true b-ball fan, I never really appreciated the great american sport of football. I became more and more intrigued by the sport as I followed our Carolina Panthers to the Superbowl, season before last. Although I religiously watched all of the playoff games, I certainly couldn't hold my own in a conversation about the games. But now I have to say I believe I can. Holly, girl, you did the dog gone thing. Men even seemed to be the impressed by the mere fact that I was reading a book about football (as I found at the airport earlier this week).
